Privacy Policy

Turf ("we," "our," or "us") helps you plan and track lawn care. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and who we share it with when you use the Turf mobile application and website (getturf.app).

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when you create an account or use the app:

• Email address, and your name if you add one
• Lawn profile data: grass type, lawn size, and location. To provide local weather and soil temperature we collect precise location (GPS latitude and longitude, or a location derived from an address or ZIP code you enter) and store it with your lawn
• Treatment logs, product pantry entries, and programs you follow
• Photos you submit for weed identification. Photos are sent to our AI provider for analysis and are not stored after analysis
• Messages sent through the AI chat feature, and feedback you send us

We also collect certain information automatically when you use the app:

• A push notification token so we can send reminders you request
• App usage analytics: events tied to your account, such as screens viewed and features used
• Crash reports: if the app crashes or hits an error, we collect diagnostic data (device model, OS version, and app state at the time) tied to your account id so we can fix bugs. Crash reports never include your email, name, or precise location

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and improve the Turf app and its features
• Generate personalized lawn care programs and AI recommendations
• Display local weather and estimated soil temperature for your lawn
• Send reminder notifications you enroll in
• Process subscriptions through Apple's App Store or Google Play
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the product
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your data for advertising and we do not show ads.

AI Features and Your Data

Turf uses Claude, an AI assistant developed by Anthropic, to power the AI lawn advisor and weed identification features. When you use these features, relevant portions of your lawn profile, treatment history, and your messages or photos are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic's privacy policy governs their handling of this data. We do not sell your data to Anthropic or any third party.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only with service providers that help us run Turf, and only as necessary to provide their services:

• Supabase (US): database hosting and authentication for your account and lawn data
• PostHog (US): usage analytics linked to your account, used only to improve the product
• Google: receives your location or the address you enter for geocoding and maps
• Open-Meteo: receives your coordinates for weather and soil temperature data
• RevenueCat and Apple/Google: subscription and purchase processing
• Anthropic (Claude): AI chat and weed identification requests
• Sentry (US): crash and error reports
• Legal requirements: we may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users

Some product links in the app are Amazon affiliate links; we may earn a commission when you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. When you open one, Amazon receives standard web request data.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (from the Profile screen, or by emailing us), your account and associated data are removed from our systems, and we request deletion from our processors where applicable. Backups are purged on our normal rotation, and we may retain records we are legally required to keep. See getturf.app/delete-account for details.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data (editable in the app)
• Request a copy of your data
• Permanently delete your account and associated data

Location Data

Turf uses your lawn's location to provide local weather, estimated soil temperature, and your USDA hardiness zone. You can grant device location permission or enter an address or ZIP code instead; either way the resulting coordinates are stored with your lawn. We do not track your location in the background. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings.

Security

Your data is stored in the United States and encrypted in transit and at rest. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Subscriptions

Billing is handled by Apple or Google and managed through RevenueCat. We never see or store your card or payment details.

Children's Privacy

Turf is not directed to children under 13 (16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through the app or by email. Continued use of Turf after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
